Candles
by St. Eval
Poured on the north Cornish coast by St. Eval, this tin carries the clean, mineral scent of sea air the moment before rain. Around 45 hours of burn, and the tin earns a second life on a windowsill.

This is the harbour scent, not the brochure one — clean and mineral, the air just before rain, nothing sweet about it. If someone finds most candles too much like pudding, this is the one to hand them.
The one I light first — a blended wax, so it carries its scent further than the price suggests, and the sea salt reads clean rather than sweet.
Best for a first candle for someone, a thank-you that isn't flowers, or anyone who prefers a cool coastal scent to a warm sugary one.
Against the others on the shelf: the fig-tree St Eval is the greener, garden-wall scent if you want warmth over freshness; Parks London is dearer and dressier, the one to give boxed; Neom's Happiness candle is the essential-oil splurge. The Sea Salt is the everyday one you actually burn down.
Worth knowing — it's a mineral-and-vegetable wax blend, not soy or beeswax, and the tin burns about 45 hours. Burn it three to four hours at a time and trim the wick to roughly 10mm, or it tunnels and wastes the edges.
The details: about 45 hours' burn · 80mm × 80mm tin · blended mineral & vegetable wax, cotton wick · made by St Eval on the north Cornish coast.
